User Guides & Reference Manuals

Despite the growing popularity of online and web based user assistance, reference manuals and user guides (whether printed or delivered electronically as PDF files) are often the most effective way of providing comprehensive documentation for more complex products and services.

Helping users achieve their tasks

I combine the ability to write clearly and concisely for a range of audiences with the technical expertise to exploit the publishing opportunities now available. Effective documentation:

  • is complete, containing clear, accurate and comprehensive information
  • is well structured so users can find the information they require
  • is written in a style appropriate to your product, your company and your audience
  • is well presented and is easy to navigate - so your customers will enjoy using it

I can produce user guides, reference manuals, release notices and installation materials for a variety of Windows, UNIX and Internet based products and services.  I can also deliver documentation consultancy (including information design, indexing, template creation, and documentation control) and provide expert advice on the major writing tools, Adobe FrameMaker and Microsoft Word.
